Can Spilled Milk Cause Your Business Money

Have you ever walked through a grocery store or some other business and noticed those little orange cone shaped obstacles that might be sitting in the middle of the floor? We all know what they are and if you do not, it is time someone told you. These cones are placed in any area that is wet on the floor so that people will be made aware that there is a spill of some kind or that one has been cleaned up and the floor is still wet. You might also wonder why it is necessary for them to place these additional obstacles in your path in the first place. It is usually pretty obvious that a floor is wet and the orange cones only make the situation worse. That is not really the case and for the safety of the customer as well as the store is why they are there. Other than the fact that a wet floor can be very dangerous if you slip and fall, this could be very bad for the business. The bottom line is, these days, people are so sue happy that no store or business owner is safe from a law suit if an accident occurs.. They are so afraid that someone might slip and fall that they put these cones out to make sure you can see the spot and are made aware of the fact that the floor is wet. You could think that the con
es will in not way prevent you from slipping and you are absolutely right. The point is that when they make you aware that the floor is wet, they have warned you and later in court you can not come back and say that you did not know the wet place was the there. It might not prevent them from being taken to court over someone falling in their place of business, but when they are able to say that they made you aware of the wet place, it will limit their responsibility and you might appear to be the one at fault. It is sad really that businesses must stay on there toes so much just to avoid being sued. There are so many times when a customer will take advantage of an accident or mishap that takes place in a business, even if the whole thing was entirely there fault. The simple fact that the accident happened on their premises is sometimes enough for a customer to sue for thousands and even millions of dollars. Some people are just greedy and will take advantage of any opportunity to sue someone for anything they can even remotely make a case for. So the next time you see orange cones in a store or business that is pointing out a wet place, what the store is really asking is to be careful and not sue them.
