"Much better situation in Iraq" says Migration Board.
The improved situation in Iraq causes the Swedish Migration board to sharpen the conditions for giving asylum to Iraqis reports the Swedish Television.
According to the Migration Board, there is a severe conflict in five of the eighteen provinces in Iraq. People from other parts of the country need very strong personal reasons to get permission to stay in Sweden.
-There is a big difference compared with a couple of years ago. Even in the five provinces where we say there is a severe conflict, there has been significant improvements says Mikael Ribbenvik at the Migration Board to Dagens Nyheter.
More than 24 000 Iraqis sought asylum in Sweden during 2007 and 2008. Many of them are still waiting for a decision but the new guidelines from the Migration Board makes it likely that many of them will not be allowed to stay.
